West Cattie Cottage is located in the countryside of Oldmeldrum. The existing traditional lime and stone cottage building has been extended into a sustainable, contemporary family home.
The proposal was to retain the existing cottage, keeping all the traditional features and extending the house out to the East in an L shape to connect to the garden, creating a sheltered garden to the South of the site.
The extension is designed using traditional materials in a contemporary way to highlight the old and new elements of the property. It has been connected to the cottage using a link which becomes the new entrance. The extension has created a more usable and livable area for the cottage.
The scheme is designed to be of similar proportional and massing qualities to the existing building on the site, and to create an overall integrated design.
